Ambassador of the State of Qatar launched a collaboration initiative with ”Nicolae Testemitanu” University

”Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was visited by His Excellency Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Zaid Al-Mahmoud, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Moldova, and Ameera Banikhalad, Second Secretary at the diplomatic mission. The visit took place on June 16, 2025, and aimed to gather information and initiate a sustainable partnership with this emirate.
During the meeting, Rector Emil Ceban delivered a brief presentation of the University regarding the institution's strategic objectives, undergraduate and postgraduate study programs, national and international accreditations, development prospects, international collaboration, etc.
”One of the most important objectives in the Institutional Development Strategy of ”Nicolae Testemitanu” University for the years 2020-2030 is internationalization, which constitutes an important factor for continuous development and increasing institutional visibility. To date, the University has concluded over 120 collaboration agreements with foreign partners and is open to expansion in this dimension. Another objective that we are constantly focused on is academic performance: quality education of the students, to ensure our visibility in the world", the rector mentioned.
Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Zaid Al-Mahmoud, stated that, since the first days of his arrival in the Republic of Moldova, he had planned to visit our university, given the prestige of the institution at the national and international level. ”The State of Qatar is interested in collaborating with Nicolae Testemitanu University with the aim of training specialist doctors, exchanging good practices in the field of higher medical education, by recruiting and integrating citizens from this country into studies, carrying out academic mobility for students and teachers, etc.," the ambassador said. In this regard, the diplomat asked the Nicolae Testemitanu University administration to create a portfolio of our university, which would reflect all areas of activity, including those related to international collaboration, to be subsequently submitted to the central authorities in the emirate. The Ambassador expressed his willingness to provide the necessary support for the presentation of Nicolae Testemitanu University to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health of the State of Qatar.
The meeting with the distinguished guest was attended by: First Vice-Rector Olga Cernetchi, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Academic Management, Mircea Betiu, Dean of Faculty of Medicine No. 2, Igor Cemortan, Head of the Department of Documentation and Recruitment of Foreign Citizens, Evelina Gherghelegiu, Head of the Department of External Relations and European Integration, and Silvia Ciubrei, Head of the Department of Communication and Public Relations.
Finally, the rector thanked the ambassador for the visit and the interest shown in our university and reiterated that ”it is an honor to work with the State of Qatar, especially on the segment of recruiting candidates for studies”.
